Q: What is the National Student Support Accelerator (“The Accelerator”)?

A: The National Student Support Accelerator (the Accelerator) is a program of the Annenberg Institute at Brown University that is devoted to translating promising research about how tutoring can benefit students into action on the ground. Our vision is that every K-12 student in need will have access to an effective tutor that champions and ensures their learning and success.


Q: When is the conference taking place?

A: The conference will be held on Monday, May 9th.


Q: Where is the conference taking place?

A: The Accelerator Conference will be held on the campus of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. You can find out more about Brown University here.


Q: What are the goals for the conference?

A: Conference attendees will explore and build on the following:

  • innovations in tutoring 
  • recent research findings
  • solutions to implementation challenges and 
  • scaling to meet today’s tutoring needs

Q: Who will be attending the conference?

A: The conference will be a gathering of approximately 100 researchers, district and state leaders, tutoring providers, and funders.


Q: How do I register for the conference?

A: Individuals who plan on attending should register for the conference through the conference website (via the registration button at the bottom of the home screen).


Q: Is there a deadline to register for the conference?

A: Yes. We ask that you register for the conference by Thursday, April 14th.


Q: Are meals included in the registration?

Yes. The Accelerator will provide breakfast, lunch and several coffee breaks throughout the day. The Cocktail Hour includes two drink tickets. Dinner will also be provided.


Q: Is the Accelerator covering expenses for the conference?

A: Conference registration is free. However, attendees are responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements. We have partnered with Aloft Marriott Hotel in Providence, RI to provide attendees a discounted rate of $189.00 per night, plus tax. *The Accelerator Team will reach out to speakers and panelists regarding travel and lodging arrangements.

Q: Does the Accelerator have hotel rooms available for meeting attendees?

A: Yes. The Accelerator reserved blocks of room for attendees at the Aloft Marriott Hotel in Providence, RI. The discounted rate is $189.00 per night, plus tax. *The Accelerator Team will reach out to speakers and panelists regarding travel and lodging arrangements.

Q: Which airport is closest to the hotel (Aloft) and venue (Brown University)?

A: The Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) is closest to the Aloft Hotel and Brown University (approximately 20 minutes to both areas). 

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is an hour from the Aloft Hotel and Brown University and can be reached by an easy train ride.


Q: How will I travel to and from the hotel?

A: Brown University is a 5 minute drive and 20 minute walk from the Aloft Hotel. You can take a car share service (Uber or Lyft) or walk to the campus.


Q: Generally, what should I expect on the day of the conference?

A: The conference will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4:45 p.m. The day will consist of a Keynote Address, moderated panel discussions, community group discussions, a table talk and a few short breaks dispersed throughout the day. The day will wrap up with a closing address and end-of-day reflections. At 5:00 p.m. there will be a cocktail hour followed by dinner at 6 p.m.

Q: What COVID-19 health & safety protocols are in place at Brown University?

A: 

  • Indoor mask wearing is optional for campus visitors at this time unless requested to do so and in certain facilities (including campus health facilities per Brown University policy.)
  • Conference attendees should carry a well-fitting KN95, KF94, N95 or disposable/surgical mask at all times in case a situation arises where a mask is required. 
  • We kindly request that all conference attendees be fully vaccinated.
