Early Steps

Early Steps is a first grade one-to-one tutoring model that is patterned on Reading Recovery. Early Steps employs a balanced approach to the teaching of reading, incorporating explicit instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics, as well as the reading experience activities favored by Reading Recovery. ES tutors work with students in reading new books at their instructional level, re-reading familiar texts, writing and learning problem-solving strategies that can be used to tackle difficult words.

America Reads America Counts

Tutors encourage students in the subject areas of Reading and Mathematics, and support children in their school development. Tutors work directly with kindergarten through sixth grade students to improve their reading and math proficiency skills. Tutors perform one-on-one work with individual students, group work, or class activities.

Amplify Tutoring Program Badge Design

Amplify Tutoring is dedicated to helping students become confident, proficient readers and mathematical thinkers. Our literacy tutoring lessons are aligned with the Science of Reading and targeted based on students’ mCLASS® DIBELS® data, complementing the work of classroom teachers. Our math tutoring lessons are research-backed, engaging, and promote mathematical discourse.

Brown Refugee Youth Tutoring and Enrichment (BRYTE)

BRYTE is a student-led organization that pairs Brown undergraduate tutors with students ages 5-18 in refugee families. Currently, BRYTE works with over 170 refugee youth that are resettled from a diverse set of countries, including Iraq, Syria, Colombia, Nepal, Eritrea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Burma, Somalia, and others. Brown undergraduate, graduate, and medical school students serve as the tutors and mentors in the BRYTE program. Around 170 BRYTE volunteers work one-on-one with refugee students in their homes at least three hours per week.
