Program Overview
Beyond Basics works to achieve literacy for everyone, transforming the lives of students and creating stronger communities through an intensive tutoring program that helps students achieve grade-level movement and beyond in reading.
Beyond Basics provides one-on-one, phonics-based literacy tutoring. We work with school staff to identify which students are in need of intervention. We then administer a diagnostic assessment that indicates where the student struggles with reading. They are then paired with a tutor who will work with them individually for the duration of the program. Our assessments allow the tutor to create personalized lesson plans geared toward the child's unique learning needs. The student and tutor meet five days per week, for an hour each day during school hours. Our method is proven to get students to advance entire grade levels in an average of just six weeks.
