Program Overview

Mission

EduTutorVA offers high-impact virtual tutoring by trained college tutors to Virginia students in high-needs schools. The students receive targeted, consistent small group instruction, and the tutors receive a positive introduction to the teaching profession.

Program Description

EduTutorVA provides high-impact virtual reading and math tutoring for students in grades 3–8 at high-needs schools. Tutoring takes place during the school day, with students receiving 40–60 hours of instruction each year in groups of two to three with the same tutor. Tutors are college students from Virginia’s colleges and universities who receive a competitive honorarium, curriculum materials, paid professional learning, and ongoing support from a tutor coach. Training focuses on lesson planning, instructional strategies, student engagement, questioning, behavior support, technology, and progress monitoring. Throughout the year, EduTutorVA collects and reviews tutoring attendance, participation, curriculum-based assessments, and district assessment data to measure student growth. Program data is regularly shared with school partners to inform instruction, identify student needs, and evaluate the impact of tutoring.
