Measuring Tutoring Effectiveness Through Data
In this National Student Support Accelerator webinar, we will cover the ways in which tutoring programs can utilize data in order measure their program’s effectiveness in terms of both student learning and tutor teaching quality.
‘What Would It Mean to Equalize Access to Tutoring?’ Brown University’s National Student Support Accelerator Aims to Find Out
“There is a lot of evidence that tutoring can produce large learning gains for a wide range of students, especially students who have fallen behind,” says Carly Robinson, a postdoctoral research associate at the institute. “Tutoring raised to the top of the list of what could put a dent in unprecedented learning loss. Tutoring works.”
The institute quickly developed the National Student Support Accelerator, still in its startup phase, to bring together researchers, schools and donors to help give K-12 students nationwide access to tutoring. Robinson says the goal is to make tutoring effective and then implement that effectiveness at scale.

Our program utilizes high-school and college students to assist younger children that don't have the educational support they need to succeed and reach their potential in school. All meetings we hold are virtual as our tutors and students live across the country. Our sessions are usually held on ZOOM, and schedules for sessions are very flexible as they are agreed upon by the parent/guardian of the student and the tutor. We are open to any accommodations or suggestions you may have as a student or a tutor in the future.
NJ Summer Tutoring Corps.
Tutors will work with small groups of three students at Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCAs three times a week. Preservice and current teachers will serve as tutors, focusing primarily on math instruction and enrichment. Tutoring will be offered as part of the programs already in place at these locations, for example summer camps.
