Purpose: This activity invites students to define and represent aspects of their identity through creative formats such as presentations, drawings, or poems. It can be used during an early session to help build relationships and affirm students’ sense of self.
Overview
- Tutors are encouraged to complete and share their version of the activity to model openness and build trust. The example template below provides ideas.
- Be intentional about the types of information students are invited to share. Consider setting a norm that allows students to opt-out or select from a range of prompts to ensure comfort and agency.
- To account for shorter tutoring sessions, tutors might do this activity over a number of sessions, choosing 1-3 prompts for each session.
