Conference Frequently Asked Questions

The National Student Support Accelerator (NSSA) is a program of the SCALE Initiative at Stanford University that translates promising research about how tutoring can benefit students into action on the ground. Our vision is that every K-12 student in need will have access to an effective tutor that champions and ensures their learning and success.

The conference will be held on Thursday, May 1st. NSSA will also host an invitation-only half-day event for district and state leaders on April 30.

The NSSA Conference will be held on the campus of Stanford University in Stanford, California at the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center. New this year, NSSA will host a District and State Leaders half-day event on April 30 that will take place at the Stanford University Faculty Club. Conference attendees will explore and build on the following:

  • Learn from and be inspired by recent research and innovative strategies
  • Collectively address implementation and funding challenges
  • Strengthen connections to support adoption of sustainable High-Impact Tutoring

The conference will be an invitation-only gathering of approximately 200 district and state leaders, tutoring providers, researchers, and funders.

Yes. We ask that you register for the conference by Friday, April 15.

Yes. NSSA will provide breakfast, lunch and several coffee breaks throughout the day. The evening reception includes drinks and heavy hors d'oeuvres.

Conference registration is free. Attendees are responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements. Limited funding is available for those who are eligible. Please indicate your interest on the registration form by March 21st.

Q: Does NSSA have hotel rooms available for meeting attendees?
A: Yes. The NSSA reserved blocks of room for attendees at the Sheraton Palo Alto at a rate of $379 per night. If you want to make a reservation at the Sheraton, please use this link or call (650) 328-2800.The NSSA also reserved blocks of room for attendees at the Graduate by Hilton Palo Alto at a rate of $359 per night. If you want to make a reservation at the Graduate, please use this link. The last day to book both hotels is March 31st!

Other self-pay hotel options:

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) are both about 20 miles from Stanford.

There are several ways to travel to and from the conference site.

  • DRIVE: The Alumni Center is a 5 - 10 minute drive from the hotel area. You can take a car share service (Uber or Lyft).
  • PUBLIC TRANSIT: The Alumni Center is about 15 minutes away via Marguerite, a free shuttle service provided by Stanford University (see map below) Take the Y Line to Stanford and X Line back to the hotel areas.

Choose from these three options to pay for visitor parking through ParkMobile.

  3. Pay-By-Phone if you don’t have a smartphone or prefer an automated voice system, call ParkMobile at 877.727.5718 to start your parking session.
  4. Download the app and set up a Park Mobile account. We recommend doing this before you arrive.

Registration will open at 8:00 a.m., the conference will begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m, with a reception to follow until 6:30 p.m. The day will consist of a keynote address, moderated panel discussions, breakout sessions by learning communities, table talk discussions, and a few breaks dispersed throughout the day. The day will wrap up with a closing address and end-of-day reflections. At 4:30 p.m. there will be an evening reception and opportunity to network.
