New Jersey Tutoring Corps, Inc.
The New Jersey Tutoring Corps provides tutoring services in math and literacy to scholars in grades PreK-8 throughout the state of New Jersey. We offer three cycles of tutoring: embedded school-day, after school, and summer, with all cycles face-to-face. Our partners are schools, districts, and community-based organizations. We follow the tenets of high-impact tutoring detailed in the Annenberg Institute's recommendations for high-dosage tutoring, with tutor-to-scholar ratios of 1:1 up to1:3, sessions lasting from 30-60 minutes, and occurring two to three times weekly.
Future of Reading
We provide a tutoring program for grades K-3, using recorded reading lessons that engage the learner in the workbook following the directions of the teacher to follow the presentation. There are 350+ video lessons organized in an LMS (Learning Management System). An onsite reading coach or tutor/mentor then reviews the workbook for completion and checks the student's understanding confidence in reading the exercises in the lesson.
Kate's Tutoring
1-on-1 academic tutoring that fosters a love of learning in your elementary through college student. Grades and study skills follow. We believe in personalized attention, meaningful connections, and transformative learning experiences.
Catch Up & Read
Catch Up & Read (CAR) focuses on equipping certified teachers with evidence-based literacy practices that give children from underserved communities the reading foundations they need to succeed in school and life.
Freshman Mentoring Program
FMP or Freshman Mentoring Program helps freshman adapt and feel more comfortable with the high school experience. Mentoring consists of helping with note-taking and studying strategies. Our tutors work with freshmen directly and as a group to guide them with whatever they need. Not only will the tutors provide guidance, but they help with academics as well.
Words Liive, Inc.
The Opus App makes it effortless for teachers, tutors, parents, and students to integrate music, a primary cultural article, into the lesson planning and delivery process. We help classrooms to enable students to bring their whole selves into their learning process, firstly via the music they love and select to be included in their lessons, and then with the assistance of our High Impact Tutors!
NEW BRIEF: Integrating High-Impact Tutoring with Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
Districts across the nation use Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to target appropriate supports for each student. High-impact tutoring is the most effective research-backed academic support – consistently demonstrating from six months to over two years of learning gains for students across grade levels and content areas in a single year of tutoring.
Districts that have chosen to integrate high-impact tutoring with MTSS are finding that embedding this highly effective support into the fabric of their schools improves student outcomes, reduces implementation challenges, improves instructional coherence, and streamlines operations.
Academic Recovery: Terms to Know
According to the U.S. Department of Education’s research arm, high-dose tutoring is the most effective—though often the most expensive.
The National Student Support Accelerator, a Stanford University center that studies effective tutoring, finds that effective high-dose tutoring programs require:
- Tutoring integrated into the school day to increase tutor-teacher coordination and avoid transportation or time problems for students.
- Targeting students based on academic need rather than requiring parents to opt into services.
- Budgeting services for at least three to five days a week for extended periods of time.
- Differentiated tutoring based on particular student needs and skills.
- Data-gathering and progress-monitoring, particularly when schools work with outside tutoring providers.
Tutoring’s New Game: Better Academic Results Yield Bigger Payoffs for Providers
With research showing that far fewer students took advantage of online tutoring than districts expected, the outcomes-based model is one way to ensure districts use public funds wisely. “In education, we can pay for things a long time before we realize no children are participating in it,” Miller said.
