Registered Apprenticeship Key Terms
- Apprenticeship Training Representative (ATR) - A US Department of Labor (U.S. DOL) or State Apprenticeship Agency representative that provides technical assistance to develop and register apprenticeship programs, navigate state and federal regulations, and identify potential funding.
- Tutor National Guideline Standards (NGS) (pending) - A U.S. DOL certified template for a high-quality Tutor Apprenticeship Program that can be used to expedite the development of new TAPs. TAP applicants may elect to adopt Tutor NGS without modification or may customize the Tutor NGS standards for their local context.
- Related Technical Instruction (RTI) Provider - The organization or organizations that develop and deliver curriculum for related technical instruction to support apprentice mastery of required competencies.
- Sponsor - The administrator of the TAP that is responsible for overall management, registration, and compliance with federal and state apprenticeship standards.
- Tutor Registered Apprenticeship Program (TAP) - A structured, competency-based, Office of Apprenticeship-recognized program that provides paid, on-the-job training and related instruction to prepare individuals for a career as a tutor and earn a nationally-recognized credential.

However, state education agencies, local education agencies, nonprofit organizations, and others that operate a tutoring program and are interested in becoming a tutor registered apprenticeship program (TAP), organizations developing new tutoring programs, and others may also find this Toolkit helpful.
