A collaboration between the Annenberg Institute and the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University, BTC is grounded in a research-backed, high-impact tutoring model. We partner with educational leaders to design programming responsive to schools' priorities and students' needs, driving measurable impact through data-driven, targeted learning support, with strong relationships and mentoring playing significant roles in student experience.
This database lists organizations that offer tutoring, technology platforms, or academic interventions. It is intended for: Districts, States or nonprofits to identify potential tutoring partners, potential tutors to identify potential employers, and tutoring organizations to have a clearer understanding of the landscape and identify interventions that might be useful to their programs.
This is not an exhaustive list, and an organization’s inclusion does not indicate that the National Student Support Accelerator or Stanford University endorse the organization. All information is submitted voluntarily by the organizations themselves. We welcome additional organizations to join the database by completing this form.

Our current volunteer programs focus on Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade across three Ravenswood schools. These programs have demonstrated significant positive impact, with teachers reporting improved reading levels and volunteers finding their work deeply rewarding.
Our approach to supporting students is multifaceted:
Proximity Learning has customizable tutoring options utilizing our Livestreamed (synchronous) certified teachers across all CORE subject areas and grade levels. Each learner will have the same tutor throughout the duration of the program. Tutors are intentionally trained on how to facilitate effective small group tutoring sessions, develop meaningful relationships with their learners, and progress monitor the academic growth per child.
Seeds of Knowledge Tutoring uses many hands-on materials, as well as the students' school materials to help students truly UNDERSTAND the concepts of the lessons.
We DO NOT use computer games / programs. Each student's lessons are completely individualized for that student.
Using the Orton Gillingham approach, our OG trained tutors meet twice-weekly (or more, per the parents' request), helping students of all ages with both reading and spelling.
A+ Tutoring is a California-based virtual tutoring provider offering high-dosage, personalized tutoring in reading, writing, and math for K–12 students. Sessions are delivered 1:1 and in small groups, multiple times per week, in structured multi-week program cycles. We partner with charter schools and families to serve a diverse student population, including English learners and students with IEPs, supported by trained tutors, structured session design, and ongoing quality review.
Real College Essays provides live, virtual, one-on-one coaching for Common App personal statements, UC Personal Insight Questions, supplemental essays, transfer applications, and other application writing. Students work with published writers and experienced educators, including PhDs, to identify strong topics, develop their ideas, structure their essays, and revise their writing for clarity and impact. All substantive coaching takes place through real-time conversation rather than asynchronous editing.
The 916 Ink Read On! program delivers literacy tutoring for striving readers to help them reach grade-level reading goals.
425 Tutoring is a student-run organization that connects high school volunteer tutors with elementary school students looking for tutoring. Based in Washington State, students and parents can sign up for group tutoring sessions on the website. We will then assign high school tutors to reach out and conduct recurring virtual tutoring sessions via Zoom or Google Meets.
Air Reading is a live virtual tutoring program that focuses on early literacy for students
from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Small-group instruction with up to 3 students per group. 30
minutes per session with 3-4 sessions a week.
At-Home Tutoring Services® (A-HTS®) delivers scalable, flexible, and high-impact tutoring for K-12 students through a hybrid model that combines human-centered instruction with technology-driven insights. Catapult Learning’s High-Dosage Tutoring (HDT) Program is a proven, student-centered intervention designed to accelerate academic growth and close achievement gaps in literacy and math. With nearly 50 years of experience in supplemental education and intervention services, Catapult now serves nearly 100,000 students annually through its HDT and intervention programs nationwide.
Since 2001, Academic Approach has pioneered personalized, skills-based test preparation and tutoring. Upholding the principle Tests are Standardized. Students are Not.™, we design custom programs for each student. Our approach goes beyond test scores, nurturing lifelong learning and empowering students to reach their full potential.
Amplify Tutoring is dedicated to helping students become confident, proficient readers and mathematical thinkers. Our literacy tutoring lessons are aligned with the Science of Reading and targeted based on students’ mCLASS® DIBELS® data, complementing the work of classroom teachers. Our math tutoring lessons are research-backed, engaging, and promote mathematical discourse.
The Canopy Tutoring Program provides high-impact academic support in literacy and math for K–12 students across Louisiana. Designed to complement what students are learning in the classroom, the program uses research-based instructional strategies and high-quality curriculum aligned with state standards. Students work in small groups or one-on-one with trained Louisiana educators who deliver targeted instruction based on each learner’s needs. Sessions focus on building strong foundational skills—in reading and math—while reinforcing classroom learning.

Study Smart Tutors implements a High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) program designed to accelerate student learning and enhance academic outcomes through supplemental instruction of specific standards-based skills and concepts across all grade levels. The program offers personalized, intensive tutoring in small groups or one-on-one settings.
FuseLit's School High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) Program serves K–12 students across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. through structured tutoring in Math, Reading, and Writing. Tutoring is delivered both in person at school partner sites and virtually.
The program meets NSSA HIT standards through consistent dosage, small group sizes of four or fewer, vetted instructional materials, and session-level data collection. Each cycle is designed to support measurable student growth over time.
Carnegie Learning's High-Impact Tutoring is a customizable, virtual acceleration program designed to provide students with live, online support in mathematics and literacy. Rooted in research, our program incorporates the National Student Support Accelerator (NSSA) standards, as well as the design principles for effective tutoring published by EdResearch for Recovery (Annenberg Institute at Brown University and the University of Virginia). Ultimately, this program is engineered to extend the impact of classroom teachers and ensure all students are prepared for grade-level learning.
Reading Corps is an AmeriCorps program that provides schools with trained literacy tutors to support reading development for students in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Trained to implement Reading Corps, tutors are trained to implement evidence-based literacy instruction and assessment protocols. Tutors are supported by a multi-level coaching model that includes site-based and external coaches. Full-time tutors work with approximately 20 students in pairs or 1:1 for 20 minutes each day.
EduTutorVA provides high-impact virtual reading and math tutoring for students in grades 3–8 at high-needs schools. Tutoring takes place during the school day, with students receiving 40–60 hours of instruction each year in groups of two to three with the same tutor. Tutors are college students from Virginia’s colleges and universities who receive a competitive honorarium, curriculum materials, paid professional learning, and ongoing support from a tutor coach.
For 25+ years, Tutor.com has provided best-in-class tutoring. Our High-Dosage Tutoring, purpose-built by a team of educators in alignment with research best practices, is available in Math grades 3 through 8 plus Algebra I and English Language Arts grades 3 through 10. What sets our High-Dosage Tutoring programs apart are design principles that drive student outcomes, including:
UI's high-impact tutoring program follows an evidence-based model designed to boost K-12 students' academic achievement in core content areas. UI instructors work with assigned small groups of students to advance equitable learning recovery. The most significant impact in this model is found when UI instructors are embedded into the school schedule to deliver instruction to groups of three students (or less) for at least 30 minutes per session 3-5 times a week. The consistent relationship between students and instructors is critical to building trust and elevating learning.

We employ passionate tutors who believe in equal access to education. Our tutors specialize in subjects ranging from math and science to test prep, and special education. We only tutor elementary & middle school students as of now and have specialized focused on the underprivileged community. Tutoring is available both in-person and online! In order to apply, you need to be in high school or above (e.g. university) and meet certain criteria as well as show proof of your mastery in the subject you would like to tutor (e.g. transcript, certificate).
Southeast Community Foundation provides high-dose/high-impact tutoring services to the students of Los Angeles who need help catching up, especially after the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our 10-week programs include tutoring sessions of up to 4 additional hours a week, are built on research-based methods, and are tailored to each student’s needs. We work with schools and school districts to identify students who can most benefit from our targeted approach. These programs are provided to students at no cost to their families.
